He is an experienced Symfony 2 developer with 4 years of behind his belt with Symfony and over 7 years with PHP. His path to enlightenment lead through “one big file monolithic applications”, custom made closed source frameworks, CakePHP and Symfony 1. Besides PHP he is also skilled in other languages that power web, like javascript, SQL, HTML and CSS. Currently, he serves as CTO at codesushi, where he spreads the gospel of clean code and best practices. Besides programming, he enjoys reading good books (SF mostly) and all the little things that gives ordinary person joy.

Inner Symfony's daemons - how to create daemons using symfony components (en)

In a web application sometimes there is a need for background process, the example for that would be websocket server. But the issue is not only limited to handling websockets, another use case would be when we want to run some process periodically with a greater frequency than one per minute. There are few technologies to choose from when addressing this issue, but most likely PHP is not what pops in mind immediately. In this talk, I would like to present ways of how to create a daemon in PHP and more over how to integrate this as part of Symfony application. Plan of my talk: Daemons why we need them? The usual ways of creating daemons Creating daemon in PHP Creating daemons with symfony console component [https://github.com/maccain13/daemonizablecommand] Issues to consider when developing daemon. In our company, we are currently working on the project that is using 2 daemons for used for communication with external service which requires quick response time. We need to call certain API every 15 seconds. And second one is used as websockets chat server. Besides that in my career I developed few daemons in php (this was even before Symfony 2 was created) which were used to communicate with smpp server.
